Week 4: "A Brave New World (Remix)"

I read Dorit Cypis’ “A Brave New World (Remix)”.  I found the points she made about the Occupy Protests to be very insightful.  From the reasons that it didn’t work like needing 100% consensus to the reasons it did like the “non-violence vision” of protesting a righteous cause, the Occupy movement made a statement around the world.  I think the main thing this text talked about when it came to collaboration and communities was what not to do.  100% consensus in a community is pretty much impossible, and the problems that the Occupy movements had like thievery, mistrust, and feelings of betrayal shows just how hard working in a community of strangers can be.  All of that being said there were some good things that came out of it.  One big reason which Cypis said well, “There was plenty of frustration and anger at Occupy, but few walked away.  What unfolded over the next weeks was a conviction that we must find a way to speak and be listened to, no matter how intolerable the experience” (Cypis 4).  The fact that after all of this mistrust and anger the protestors stuck together to get their message heard is truly something to marvel and look at.  It is tools like these that make collaborators and communities work.
